Battery versus USB?

Roland Stefani Nov 16, 2015 07:09PM GMT

I understand that use of USB does not charge the batteries. But if I use a portable, pocket size USB power pack, will the Spot 3 use the combined energy of both the USB power source plus the lithium batteries? or will it disable battery connection, so the only available power is from the portable power pack?

One use I have in mind is to hide the Spot 3 in the outboard motor compartment (when not in use) together with a USB connection to a power pack to extend or add to battery life. (I have had a motor stolen previously)

We do not recommend to use the SPOT Trace or Gen3 with an external battery pack as they are not designed to run through these, but the internal batteries only (unless hard wired in). The SPOT Trace unit sounds like it would be better suited for your needs as it is smaller and much more discreet.
