Ocean Signal EPIRB1 | Testing

Last Updated: Mar 12, 2019 02:19PM GMT
We recommend that you routinely test your EPIRB1 to make sure it is good working order, in case it is needed in an emergency.

However, testing the GPS receiver uses significant amounts of battery energy - so testing is limited to 12 tests over the lifetime of the battery, after this GPS tests will fail to activate.

How do I test my EPIRB1?

1. Pull the antenna completely out until firm resistance is felt (remember to retract the antenna after the test)
2. Press and hold the TEST key for at least one second. The red LED will come on to indicate the switch is depressed, followed by the red LED flashing rapidly, indicating test mode is activated.
3. The strobe light will flash once (indicating that the 406 and 121.5MHz signal has been transmitted).
